SAJAMA

In the Sajama National Park, there is a striking stratovolcano, this is part of the Occidental Mountain Range and is the highest peak in Bolivia. Spending time in its surroundings is undoubtedly a renewing experience.

After 2 hours and 30 minutes of travel, we will visit the famous “Chullpares”, ancient burial tombs that are located on the sides of the road, transporting us hundreds of years back in time. Then, we will visit the beautiful Sistine church of Curaguara, a place where there are large murals of biblical passages. Afterwards, we will arrive at the town of Sajama, where a delicious lunch awaits us. In the afternoon, we will go to the geysers, a spectacle of bubbling water under the earth, we can also enjoy a bath in the thermal waters, surrounded by a beautiful landscape.

Return to La Paz.

Day 1

After 2hr and 30 min of travel, we will be visiting the famous “chullpares”, ancient burial tombs that are located on the sides of the road, carrying us back hundreds of years in time. Afterwards, we will visit the beautiful Sistine church of Curaguara, a place where there are large murals of biblical passages. We will then arrive at the Sajama village, where a delicious lunch awaits us. In the afternoon, we will visit the geysers, a spectacle of water bubbling under the earth. At the end of the day, we will visit the thermal baths, where we can enjoy a hot bath in the middle of nature. These waters are considered to be medicinal.

Accommodation: Hostel in Sajama. Basic comfort.

Meals included: Lunch and dinner.



Day 2

After breakfast, we will take a short and peaceful walk to the queñuas forest, and then visit the Thermal baths again and hang out in the surroundings. We will have a box lunch and finally return to La Paz city.

Weather: Cold and arid. Average temperature of 14°, at night the temperature can drop below 0°.

Altitude: 4300 meters above sea level.

Location: Oruro.

Ecosystem: There are several llamas, alpacas and vizcachas, a kind of mountain rodent. The vegetation is dominated by the queñua forest, a protected species.

Travel time: 4 hours from La Paz.

What should I bring?

Sunscreen, cap or sunglasses, warm clothes for the night, sleeping bag, trekking shoes, bathing suit and towels for the hot springs.
