Pantanal of Bolivia

It is the largest freshwater swamp in the world, covering the countries of Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay. El Pantanal is one of the most fascinating ecosystems on the planet, home to hundreds and hundreds of species of plants and animals. Ideal to observe a nature that is virgin and wild.

Day 0

Night trip at 21:30 hours from the Bimodal terminal of Santa Cruz to Puerto Quijarro.

 

Day 1

We will arrive very early to Puerto Suarez, where our private transportation will take us to Otuquis National Park, where we will have a delicious breakfast at the foot of Cerro Mutun, the largest iron ore mine in the world.

Afterwards, we will go on a beautiful photographic safari, where we will observe the swamp fauna and have contact with the indigenous people of Bahia Negra. Throughout our tour we will continue to see towns of great natural beauty. If we are lucky in the schedule we will be able to see the “Barcomercado”, which supplies the town with food.

We will have our lunch and continue our adventure navigating the Paraguay River until we reach the Tripartite Landmark (border of Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay), where we will be able to practice fishing. Finally we will return to Otuquis National Park where we will have dinner and spend the night.

Accommodation: Lodge (house with shared bathroom).

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

 

Day 2

Breakfast at 7:00 am. We will go to the Paraguay River, in front of Puerto Busch crossing the Paraguay River is Brazil, where the Hacienda Tres Piuvas is located, place where we will begin a peaceful walk.

After lunch we will leave for Fort Coimbra, a district located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. It is a colonial fortress built to defend the Brazilian territory against Spanish invasions.

We will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

Breakfast at 7:00 am. Then we will go for a relaxing walk to Fort Coimbra in Brazil. We will return to Hacienda 3 Piuvas to rest and eat lunch. In the afternoon we will go to Puerto Suarez (4 hours trip). After dinner we will return by bus to Santa Cruz city.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Weather: Warm and tropical. Average temperature of 24° in the winter season (April to September). In summer (October to March) the temperature can reach 32° and it is in this season when the rains fall.

Altitude: 350 meters above sea level.

Location: Santa Cruz.

Ecosystem: Abundant flora and fauna. More than 1650 species of plants have been registered, such as Labon, Quebracho colorado, Viñal, Verde olivo, Turino and Palo hierro.

There are 59 species of mammals, 179 species of birds, 35 species of reptiles, 24 species of amphibians and more than 1000 species of butterflies.

What should I bring?

Insect repellent, sunscreen, cap or sunglasses, binoculars, light clothing with long sleeves, comfortable and resistant shoes that can get dirty, waterproof jacket, yellow fever vaccination certificate.
